Cheongdogun

Full Moon Festival

A folklore festival to contribute to the county people’s wellness and harmony and to wish for a good harvest

This annual event is held to pray for the village's peace and comfort on the 15th day of the first month of the lunar calendar by Cheongdocheon Stream.
Folk games such as jwibullori (fire game) and fireworks shows are presented as a prayer for a good yearly harvest and for the hopes and dreams of our children.
Every year, the largest daljip (straw house) in the country measuring 20 m high and 15 m wide is made at this festival. It consists of 55 trucks worth of pine leaves, 200 bundles of straw, 30 coils of straw rope and 60 tree trunks.
Other features of the festival are the folk kite-flying contest, Korean folk games such as Jegi(hacky sack), Tuho(arrow throwing), Neolttwigi(seesaw), Yutnori(traditional board game), sharing traditional seasonal foods, and many other events.
